Planetary Health and Traditional Medicine: A Potential Synergistic Approach to Tackle Antimicrobial Resistance

چکیده
Antimicrobials are compounds that impede the activities of bacteria, viruses, parasites, or fungi. Continuous antimicrobial overuse, misuse, and improper use for human, animal, agricultural purposes raising concerns about antibiotic residue pollution in environment, resistance genes (ARGs). Because antimicrobial-resistant diseases linked to human–-microbial ecosystems, environmental from ARGs alters makeup diversity human gut microbiota, putting under selection pressure. This perspective proposes antibiotic-induced microbiome depletion is quality has repercussions health via microbiome’s sensitive ecosystem. stimulated new global efforts multidisciplinary, integrative approaches addressing Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) awareness communities. Several academic papers published recent years have shown medicinal plant extracts effective against on WHO’s pathogen priority lists (PPL), such as ESKAPE pathogens (Enterococcus faecium, Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Acinetobacter baumannii, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Enterobacter species). Traditional medicine, with its knowledge plants, promises be a valuable source next-generation powerful antimicrobials. Examples include discovery Artemisinin, highly active antimalarial drug derived Artemisia annua, Taxol, an chemotherapeutic bark Pacific yew, Taxus brevifolia. The connections between small large ecosystems’ vitality, biodiversity protection, been acknowledged by Planetary Health principles. To address these intertwined concerns, Medicine approach can adopted, addressed expanding screening plants bioactive compounds.

One Health approach to tackle antimicrobial resistance in South East Asia
A ntimicrobial resistance (AMR) has become a core political, social, and economic problem of our time. The efficacy of antimicrobials is declining rapidly, alongside the emergence of pan-resistant bacteria and uncontrolled dissemination of antibiotic resistant genes in non-clinical environments. Projections suggest that by 2050 more people will die of bacterial infections than cancer. The 71st ...

Infectious disease accounts for a substantial proportion of deaths worldwide. Continuing progress in the treatment of many infections is now threatened by the increasing numbers and widening distribution of pathogens resistant to antimicrobial (antibacterial, antiviral, antiparasitic, and antifungal) drugs. Until fairly recently, antimicrobial resistance was regarded as an issue mainly confi ne...
